‘Great Grandson of John Howard Who Was in Braddock's Defeat’
Braddock's Defeat (Battle of Monongahela, 1755, during the French and Indian War) was a battle with the British leader (General Edward Braddock) and his American aide (Colonel George Washington).
According to legend in the Howard Family, our John Howard, ancestor was in that battle. On my line, Catherine Howard, John's daughter is my 4th great-grandmother. She married into the Heyers line. That far is correct. If my line indeed goes to John, then John is my 5th great-grandfather. So if this saying on the grave is true, this John at the cemetery, would be a cousin. Note on Findagrave: they go back 2 generations, but do not connect him to John.
