 I pledge allegiance

The list below is from a page about Red Skelton. There is a audio file and a movie file with him telling the story behind the list. Well worth watching!!! I Pledge Allegiance I know ‘under God’ is not listed, but it was not in the pledge when first written. It was added later. Listen to the sound track or movie and Mr. Skelton expounds on it.

I—-meaning me, an individual, a committee of one.

Pledge—-dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.

Allegiance—-my love and my devotion.

To the Flag—-our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there is respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody’s job.

Of the United—-that means that we have all come together.

States—-individual communities that have united into 48 great states. 48 individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose, all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common cause, and that’s love of country.

Of America.

And to the Republic—-a republic, a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it’s from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.

For which it stands!

One nation—-meaning, so blessed by God.

Indivisible—-incapable of being divided.

With Liberty—-which is freedom and the right of power to live one’s life without threats or fear or any sort of retaliation.

And justice—-The principle and quality of dealing fairly with others.

For all.—-which means, boys and girls, it’s as much your country as it is mine.”

Wrong time — right time

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:58 am

I guess I started this blog at the wrong time in my life. But, when is there a right time to do anything, with our busy lives we have today? I started work with the census. It is really neat working with the great bunch of people I am working with. They are helpful and supportive so it is not as stressful as it could be. But, then they tell me it was a whole lot busier than it is right now.
I wrote a few haiku about my time there so far. It is not always this slow, though. :)

census time is here
to show all are important
we count each person

sitting at my desk
wishing phones would start ringing
to stop the boredom

the clock ticks along
slowly marking my time here
as seconds pass by

(The last two are mainly later in the evening)

Well, I may or may not get any more posts done for a while. It depends on how I feel each day. I do still have to keep things up around the house, though Steve is helping a lot!

New Poem

God rocks me in His cradle

And covers me with His love

He supplies my every need

From His throne above.

Last night, I was up because of coughing. I guess I was out too much in the cold air yesterday morning. But, yard sales called me. Anyway, early this morning, I tried again to sleep and came up with those words to help me slumber a few minutes before I started coughing and was up again. ~sigh~

BTW, we did find a few good buys at the yard sales. :)

A Simple Recipe for Good Life

* Someone to love. People are generally healthier and happier when they have someone or something to love or care for; this may be a spouse, children, grandchildren or a pet. Spending time with family and friends helps ward off depression and reinforces healthy behaviors. If there is illness, time must be made for care giver to have some space to herself.

* Something to do. When we are actively engaged in the world around us, we feel challenged and productive, this is key to satisfaction. Being involved-seeking opportunities to identify set some goals fro yourself and dream a little. The possibilities could be endless.

* Something to look forward to. For many people later in life is a time to explore new ventures, give back to others in the community, (through volunteering or even employment), or share some wisdom with family and friends. People like to know that they’ve challenged themselves or that they’ve made a difference, we like to see the outcome of our efforts.

* Don’t be afraid to reach out to others. Always keep yourself socially and spiritually connected with other people. Remember to cultivate that positive attitude we all have.

* Always remember that God loves you. He wants you to stay as young and healthy as possible.

This is material that we are all well aware of but just need to be reminded every so often. I found this in a Mayo Clinic Plan for health.

I hope you enjoyed it, and apply it to your life, and always remember Jesus loves you and so do I.

And, I got it from Barbara’s chat room. Check it out at this link.

Watching Movies

Filed under: soapbox — admin @ 7:37 pm

Last night we watched Lost in Space. It is a TV series we watched when we were children in the late 60s. It is a space-age story similar to the novel The Swiss Family Robinson. We enjoyed watching it again. One thing I noticed was the simplicity of the show. It kept us in suspense, even though there was not the gross drama of today with all the ‘real life’ scenes and action. I don’t know why we can’t get back to simpler shows instead of all the blood and drama shown today. When a body is shot or blown up, we don’t have to see it. Our imagination tells us what happened. We don’t have to see all the gore to get the picture.
Yes, some of the older shows were really fakey-looking now, but they did not look that way back then. (Though this one was not as bad) So, what has changed? We have. The more Hollywood shows of the gore, it seems to more people want to see … or they would not be watching all the shows nowadays. I am thankful some movie producers are making better movies. I am also thankful we do not have cable and if we want to watch a movie (mostly oldies) we go to one of the movie/TV sites and pick what we want to see … and without all the commercials. Now, … commercials is another whole thought for another day! :)

I thought I’d start a family blog. Now, my thought it will be easier to put new things on the web site than making a whole new web page each time.  hehehe We’ll see!  My family consists of 2. Hubby and me.

We went to Maine in January. This is a photo of us and our local newspaper. When people travel they sometimes do this and then the newspaper prints it. They printed our photo!
