THE JONES CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH web page. Still serving God after 205 years!

According to the church minutes some of my ancestors went to this church in the early 1800s.

James and Sarah Thomas are my 4th great-grandparents. Their son, Lewis Thomas married Elizabeth Mixon. Their daughter, Martha married David Cason. Their daughter, Sarah Rebecca married William Thomas Gill II. Their son, Daniel Robert married Ethel Elma Little. One of their daughters, is my mother.

James Thomas moved his family to Liberty County abt 1807 and is listed in the tax digest there until 1828. James and his wife, Sarah, were two of the first members of Jones Creek Baptist Church 22 Apr 1810 . He served as clerk of the church from 23 Mar 1822 to 22 Dec 1822. He applied for a letter of dismissal from the church on 22 Oct 1825, because he was moving. 26 Nov 1825, they agreed James Thomas could have the letter of dismissal and the clerk was appointed to write it.

From the minutes of JCBC: "October 26, 1822 Conference opened by prayer and singing. Received by experience Brethren ... and Lewis Thomas. Lewis Thomas was baptized in the waters of Jones Creek as a member of Jones Creek Church 27 Oct 1822, by the Reverend Moses Westberry." Elizabeth Mixon is also listed in the church records as a member.

I have two connections on the Mixon side. Elizabeth, listed above is on my mother's side. Her sister, Amelia, is on my father's side.

Redden and Amelia Mixon Amelia are my 4th great grandparents. Their daughter, Amelia married George Washington Davis and had a son named Benjamin Colson. Benjamin and his wife Jane Brown had a daughter named Annie Bell Davis. Annie Bell and her husband William Henry Tatum had a daughter named Leila Jane. Leila and her husband Martin T Harris had a son named Lewis Jackson, my father.

From the minutes of JCBC: "October 26, 1822 Conference opened by prayer and singing. A door for experience opened: Received ... Amelia Mixon and baptized ... Amelia Mixon." Note: I don't know if this is my 4th or 3rd great-grandmother. OR if is both of them!"
